Some people say that once you go to a chiropractor then you have to keep going. The truth is that it is entirely up to the patient. However, it is important to try to understand the need for maintenance care.
If the patient spends the time and money correcting their spine enough to relieve their symptoms (short-term relief care) or fully correcting their spine (long-term corrective care) then it is important to maintain that level of correction. The treatment for maintenance care consists of spinal adjustments, therapy and specific exercises.
We continue to see our dentist for life to maintain the health of our teeth, gums and mouth. The dentist is specially trained to detect and educate us about any areas of our mouth that may need special attention between our appointments.
Chiropractic is not much different. Maintenance care allows the doctor to check for areas that may have weakened over time due to poor posture, lack of exercise, trauma and stress. Patients tend to have patterns of misalignment due to habits, repetitive stress and routines that we have throughout any given day.
By receiving maintenance care the doctor can adjust the spine and prevent further breakdown and reduce the chance for old or new symptoms to occur. This ultimately increases the function of your nervous system and improves your overall health.
